After several years in which surf kayaking was mainly performed by whitewater kayakers during the “dry season”, surf kayaking in Portugal is now a discipline of its own, and the number of paddlers has been increasing fast and consistently in recent years. With this course, we intend to introduce every paddler, irrespective of experience, to kayaksurfing and wavesking in order to increase the critical mass of the sport. We want to note that for the waveski course no previous experience in paddling is required. However, the participants will certainly feel more at ease if they have some kayaking experience.

The eskimo roll is without a doubt the most important self-rescue maneuver in whitewater kayaking. Besides being essential for whitewater, it is also extremely useful in other kayaking disciplines, such as sea kayaking, kayak polo and evidently, surf kayaking. To an outsider, rolling a kayak might seem funny and entertaining, yet for the enthusiastic paddler, it might dictate the difference between a pleasant day and that of cold and sacrifice. Therefore, taming this technique invented by the eskimos is fundamental to all paddlers who want to venture in the most technically demanding and dangerous rivers and the weekend paddlers alike

We consider essential for every whitewater paddler to have full knowledge of the safety aspects of their activity.
