INTERMEDIATE WW NAVIGATION COURSE

After a first introduction to whitewater, many kayakers feel the need for further support and instruction. The intermediate whitewater navigation course sits between the introductory and the advanced navigation courses. The aim of this course is to consolidate the knowledge from the basic navigation course, allowing kayakers to confidently tackle navigation in class III rivers.

Course logistics:

Location- Praia Fluvial do Areinho (Paiva River - Arouca)

Duration – 12 hours distributed over two days

Schedule – Saturdays and Sundays from 10h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to 17h00

Minimum number of students – 4

Maximum number of students 10

 

 

Accommodation- Camping in the beach or stay in the Clubs bungalow (free)


Course topics:

- Recognizing obstacles and other rivers dangers;
- Rapid’s recognition and their navigation;
- Technique, braces, boofs;
- Self-rescue;
- The River: morphology, flow and water levels;
- Navigation in class III and introduction to class IV;
- Kayak types and their specificities.

INTRODUCTORY COURSE TO WW KAYAKING

In this course, the Clube de Canoagem e Águas Bravas de Portugal (CCABP) will cover the basic strokes and paddling techniques for those who want to initiate and improve their skills in whitewater kayaking. Also, with this course, we intend to disseminate our sport and contribute to unveil our many magnificent rivers and creeks. 
We note that for safety reasons, all participants should be able to swim and should be in good physical condition. Compliance of the latter items is from the sole responsibility of the participants.
